Dobok (Uniform)

All Gumdo members should wear a Dobok set during classes as it is
the official uniform of Korea Haedong Gumdo Association and World
Haedong Gumdo Federation.
But under the sizzling hot weather, you can wear a more convenient
T-shirt instead of wearing official uniform.
Belts
As a beginner, you start with White belt and you change your belt
colour along with your level till you get a Black belt. You keep
one colour belt for 3 months (in condition that you have almost
fully attended all the classes) and if you pass the upgrade test,
you can a get higher level belt, The higher level belts are Yellow,
Blue, Red, and Red & Black.
Once you get a 1st degree black belt, you don't change your belt
colour but you can promote to a higher level after your Dan (Black
Belt) test. For the material and required time for a higher degree,
refer to the 'Gumdo System' page.
You don't need to buy colour belts. They are offered by the Gym.
Mokum
(Wooden sword)
A Mokum is the very basic tool in Gumdo practice as it is used all
the time during classes. So we can say that a wooden sword is essential equipment in Gumdo practice.
Jukdo
(Bamboo sword)

A Jukdo - bamboo sword - is used for predefined fighting and other
Gumdo exercises.
Thus, unlike Japanese style Kendo (Kendo is Japanese name of Gumdo),
a bamboo sword is optional in Haedong Gumdo in the beginning. It
is not so oftenly used in the beginning, but according to your level,
it may be used more often.
Real
sword
As an adult black belt, you are allowed to use a real sword. There
are many kinds of real sword like Samgak-do, Yookgak-do, Multi-purpose
sword and so on.
A real sword is used for cutting practice and real Gumdo technique
exercises.
Sword
bag (case)
To bring swords, you need a sword bag. Normally we bring swords
in a cotton sword case. The sword case is coming with a wooden sword
or a real sword.
